Cultural Center

Hi everyone,
I do not know for you but I liked the visit to the cultural center. The gigantic carton board sculpture was very interesting. But from all the different presentation the one I enjoyed the most was a painting from the unfortunate artist Hollis Sigler. I really enjoyed her style. Very simple but at the same time very full of meaning. I really like her idea of writing her feelings on the frame.

My favorite painting is the lightning stair, the one going from town to the sky. I feel connected to this painting because it reminds me some of my childhood dreams.
I am very touch by the artist work for many reasons. The first one is the subject painted, the second is to know myself people who suffered from this horrible disease.

  3. Hi Dasa,
to answer to your question, yes sometime I got lost in my dreams and wish they could come to life. Or maybe, if I draw so much fantasy it is just because I see it everywhere. And no worries I am very patient, and I think the class is good. I am still learning and this from everyone.

  4. Henri,
thanks for your thoughts on the trip to the Cultural Center. You point out the importance of personal association to works of art. Yes, if we have had experiences that match those in an art work, it is often easier to relate to a work. Your observation about her use of language/words in her work is also crucial. Why do you think she wrote on the frame? What is the function of a frame in an artwork?

  5. The frame can have many use. From a simple shape around a painting or drawing to part of it. You can joined it by painting it, matching the color of it with the colors of the art.
I think she used the painting as a escape window and the frame as a diary. I have been touch by her work cause I shared some of her thought about death in different situations and also know some people who went through this horrible disease which is cancer. I would have love to be able to talk to her before she joined her painted dreams.
